DHAKA, June 19, 2026 (BSS) – The Islamic Foundation (IFA) has undertaken a nationwide programme to plant 102,400 trees as part of efforts to protect the environment, address the adverse impacts of climate change and help implement the government's election manifesto.

Under the initiative, trees will be planted at divisional and district offices of the foundation, model mosques, Imam Training Academies, Islamic Mission Centres, Darul Arkam Ebtedayee Madrasas and mass education centres across the country.
The information was disclosed in a recent directive issued by the Coordination Division of the Islamic Foundation.

According to the directive, the decision was taken at the foundation’s 214th monthly coordination meeting with a view to raising public awareness and accelerating the nationwide greening programme.

As part of the initiative, a total of 2,400 trees will be planted in the country's eight metropolitan cities, with 300 saplings allocated for each city.

Besides, a target has been set to plant 100,000 trees across 500 upazilas, with 200 saplings to be planted in each upazila.
Altogether, 102,400 trees will be planted throughout the country under the programme.

The Islamic Foundation said the tree plantation drive would not only contribute to environmental conservation but also help increase public awareness about environmental protection, promote the vision of a greener Bangladesh and support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The foundation has also taken initiatives to spread messages on environmental protection among the public through mosques and religious educational institutions.

The directive further stated that the tree plantation programme must be completed by August 31, 2026, in line with the specified targets.

Divisional and district offices have been instructed to submit pictorial reports on the plantation activities to the Coordination Division of the Islamic Foundation upon completion of the programme.

The directive, signed by Islamic Foundation Director Md. Mohiuddin, was sent to directors of divisional offices and deputy directors of district offices.

Copies of the directive were also provided to the foundation's secretary, director of finance and accounts, and the private secretary to the director general for information.

Officials concerned believe that the large-scale plantation programme, centred on religious institutions and educational establishments, will play a positive role in protecting the country's environment and further strengthen the government's greening initiatives.

They also expressed hope that the involvement of mosques and Islamic educational institutions would help raise public awareness about environmentally friendly practices and the importance of tree plantation across the country.
