53 polling stations important in Bogura by-election

BOGURA, April 08, 2026 (BSS)- The administration has identified 53 out of 150 polling stations as important in the by-election of Bogura-6 (Sadar) constituency. 

Of those, five centers have been considered more important and special security measures have been taken for those centers.

The election will be held tomorrow.

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has been deployed to control the overall law and order ahead of the election. 

District Police Special Branch (DSB) said five centers were categorized as very important, 48 as important and 97 as general centers among all centers.

The very important centers are- male and female centers of the old building of Bogra Government Azizul Haque College, Bhandari Girls High School Center and Bogura Coronation Institution School and College center. 


Six police members and 15 to 16 Ansar members will be deployed at each center in these very important centers. Five police members and 12 to 15 Ansar members will be on duty in the important centers. 

In addition, members of the army, BGB and RAB will be on the field as a striking force. Executive and judicial magistrates will also be on duty.

Meanwhile, eight platoons of BGB have been deployed to maintain law and order. 

They have started their duties since April 2 and will remain in the constituency until April 11. 

BGB members are stationed at three base camps in Bogura Sadar Upazila and are performing their duties at the field level. They have started active patrolling and security activities since Friday. 

The district administration has also banned the movement of trucks, microbus, private cars and trucks from 12 midnight on April 8 to 12 midnight on April 9. 

In addition, the movement of motorcycles has also been banned from 12 midnight on April 7 to 12 midnight on April 10.

Returning Officer Fazlul Karim told BSS that the BGB has been deployed to maintain overall law and order during the election. They will be on duty from April 2 to 11 and will work as a striking force as needed, he added. 

He said that the BGB members will ensure security and patrol before, on and after the voting. This measure has been taken as per the decision of the Election Commission. Besides, other security measures including the appointment of an executive magistrate have also been strengthened, he added.

Three candidates are contesting in the by-election. They are BNP's Rezaul Karim Badsha (sheaf of paddy), Jamaat-e-Islami's Abidur Rahman Sohel (scale) and Bangladesh Development Party's Al Amin Talukder (cauliflower).

According to the District Election Office, there are total 454,043 voters in this constituency. Of them, 222,799 are males, 231,234 are females, and 10 are third gender voters.
