RANGPUR, May 1, 2025 (BSS) – The historic May Day and National Occupational Health and Safety Day 2025 was celebrated in Rangpur metropolis today with the theme 'Workers and employers united, let's rebuild this country anew'.
 
The district administration, Regional Office of the Department of Labour and Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments (DIFE) jointly organised a colorful rally followed by a discussion marking the day.
 
The colorful rally was brought out t from the premises of the District Commissioner's office with the participation of government officials, employees, politicians, and labor leaders of various classes and professions.
 
After parading the main roads of the city, the rally ended at the Public Library ground.
 
Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Rabiul Faisal presided over the discussion, held at the District Shilpokola Academy Auditorium on the Public Library ground in the city.
 
Rangpur Divisional Commissioner Md. Shahidul Islam addressed the discussion as the chief guest.
 
Rangpur Metropolitan Additional Police Commissioner Md. Ruhul Amin, Additional Superintendent of Police Md. Joynal Abedin, Deputy Inspector General of the DIFE at its Rangpur regional office Md. Al Amin, joint convener of the Rangpur Divisional and Metropolitan Sramik Dal labor leader Abdul Khaleque addressed the event as special guests.
 
The chief guest said that working people are the driving force of society and they are making an important contribution to the national economy. Therefore, fair wages and a safe workplace must be ensured for them, he added.  
 
Regarding the July-August mass uprising, he said that the July-August mass uprising was held to demand the establishment of fair rights and the elimination of discrimination.
 
“Therefore, wherever injustice and discrimination occur, protests should be organized there,” he said.
 
Addressing factory owners, he said that the owners should take care to ensure the rights of the workers so that discontent does not arise among the workers.
 
He called on all concerned to protect and implement the rights of the workers with a compassionate attitude in line with the spirit of the July-August 2024 uprising.
 
The district and metropolitan units of Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal, BNP and Ganosamhati Andolon, Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal, different organisations of workers, labourers, professionals, and human rights organisations and NGOs observed the day.
