8 arms recovered, 2 arrested in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, May 3 2025 (BSS) - District police have recovered eight different types of arms and arrested two members of arms trade syndicate after searching a Noakhali-bound microbus at Bashbaria Bazar under Sitakunda thana of the district on Friday afternoon.

The arms included six shooter gun, one locally made rifle and one single barrel gun, Additional District Police Super (Industrial Zone and DB) Md Rasel confirmed this here today.

The detained persons were- Md Manir Hossain, 45, son of Kanchan Dhali of Majhi Bari under Ishakhati union of Airport thana of Barishal district and Md Monir,48, son of Shams Uddin Patwari of Panchgaria village under Chatkhil thana of Noakhali district.

Police said a criminal gang used to manufacture various types of arms in remote hilly areas of Shaplapur region under Moheskhali upazila of Cox’s bazar district for a long time. The gang has been engaged in supplying those illegal arms to criminals’ gangs of other parts of the country especially in Feni and Noakhali districts using river and land routes.

District police officials said they have information of the arms manufacturing and suppliers gang and was trying to trace the gang.

Acting on a tip-off and under direct supervision of Police Superintendent of Chattogram district Saiful Islam Shatu, a team of detective police had set up a check-post at a place near Bashbaria Bazar on Dhaka-Ctg highway under Sitakunda upazila.

The DB team ordered to stop a microbus but defying the order the microbus started moving and try to escape from the spot.

Police also started chasing and were able to detain the microbus. The recovered arms were hidden inside a hole of the microbus.
