Indian video misrepresented as Khagrachhari incident: FactWatch

DHAKA, Sept 30, 2025 (BSS) - FactWatch, a Bangladesh-based independent fact-checking organisation, has identified a concerted attempt to create confusion and spread rumors by falsely claiming a video filmed in India as Khagrachhari incident.

The investigation team of the fact-checking organisation found that the video, which went viral on Facebook, was actually filmed in Unakoti, located in India's Tripura state.

In the video, a person is speaking into a microphone, announcing the demand that the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) must be joined with India.

FactWatch's investigation revealed that the video is neither recent nor from Bangladesh. It was recorded in 2024 in Unakoti, Tripura state, India, they added.
