Two-day workshop on malaria modeling begins at RU

RAJSHAHI, March 27, 2026 (BSS)- A two-day workshop titled “Malaria Modeling for Public Health Professionals in Bangladesh” has begun at Rajshahi University (RU), focusing on malaria modeling.
 
The workshop was inaugurated today (Friday) at the conference hall of the Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Sciences at the university.
 
Funded by the Applied Malaria Modeling Network (AMMnet) and supported by Professor Tilak Chandra Nath, Chairman of the Department of Parasitology at Sylhet Agricultural University, the workshop is being organized by the Department and Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Sciences of Rajshahi University.
 
Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Rajshahi University, Professor Md. Faridul Islam, attended the inaugural session as the chief guest and formally opened the workshop.
 
In his speech, VC Professor Faridul Islam highlighted the importance of such workshops in improving public health through malaria prevention and strengthening research-based skills.
 
He assured full support for organizing similar events in the future to combat malaria in Bangladesh.
 
The inaugural session, moderated by Professor Tilak Chandra Nath, also featured a welcome speech by Professor Moijur Rahman, Chairman of the Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences.
 
The event was presided over by Professor Md. Mozzafar Hossain, Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Sciences. Teachers and students of the faculty were present.
 
On the first day of the workshop, the keynote paper was presented by Professor A.M.M. Zunaed Siddiki of Chattogram Veterinary and Animal Sciences University.
 
As part of the workshop, 30 students will receive hands-on training and presentations on research mapping software GIS (Geographic Information Systems), data analysis using R software, and bioinformatics.
 
Certificates will be awarded to participants at the end of the workshop.
 
The Applied Malaria Modeling Network (AMMnet), established in 2022, is a global community of malaria modelers, data analysts, and partners.
 
The network works to help eliminate malaria by developing skilled human resources in malaria-prone countries.
